Located at Mead’s Quarry Knoxville, this structural camping space was created as a result of multiple iterative studies. These studies revolved around the idea of form as a driven response to light and shadow, instead of as an afterthought. I looked at light and shadow as the primary driver of form. By using material presence and absence, with light sources and station points, an experience is produced that creates interesting qualities. I was tasked to create interesting qualities through form by only using five surfaces that could each occupy one plane. Therefore, each surface was carefully designed and selected to maximize the differing experiences of light and minimize structure.
